ConVocation is a convention of the many mystical spiritual paths and faiths and the people that follow them who desire to teach each other and promote fellowship among all esoteric traditions.

Since 1995, this 4-day event has brought together over 100 classes and rituals presented by local instructors, internationally renowned guest speakers and authors. Along with workshops, ConVocation offers over 40 tables of merchandise in our Merchant Room, an Art Show and the largest indoor Drum Circle in the Midwest.

For 2013 our theme will be based on the message of the 19th card of the Tarot, The Sun. The theme we are working on from this card is “A Little Illumination, If You Please.” We will be focusing on the messages of the Sun, on our Inner Light, Reason, Personal Power or Youthful Exuberance. We will explore the masculine energies that come from the Sun, and how each of us in finding our Inner Power build our Community.

Intro To Druidism: History, Belief, Modern Practice

We are heirs to ancient custom and belief going back to the earliest cultures of Europe.  Long before writing, the myths, magic, and accumulated wisdom of the ancients were preserved and passed on by priests and priestesses.  The Celtic Druids and their counterparts across Eurasia carried these traditions forward leading down to folk tale and custom.  Modern Druidism is a return to ancient tradition and magic, a renewed understanding of mankind’s role in the cosmos, a rekindling of our relationship to ancestral spirits, the gods, and the natural world.

Personal Gnosis: Judging the Spiritual Experience
Most Pagans (and other polytheistic minority religions) would agree that personal experiences of Deit(ies) are fine when they’re kept to yourself … but what about when they’re not? How do we decide whose divine messages get incorporated into group practice, and whose don’t? How can we trust each other? How did the ancient world handle these issues? This will be a discussion group on how to healthily incorporate personal gnosis into group doctrine. Please come with intent to be courteous and respectful of others’ views; the moderator is a hardass and will not tolerate rudeness.

Women who walk a Warriors Path

The path of the Warror is one steeped in misinterpretation and misrepresentation. It is a path that often is not popular, is sometimes lonely and demands a courageous spirit. The focus of this workshop is how women approach and walk the Warrior's Path. Exploring the inner warrior in every woman, the things women fight for, the reclaiming of the Clan Mothers, and the Warrior Aspect of the Goddess. This workshop is for every woman who has ever defended her hearth and family, to every woman who has honorably stood her ground on what she knew in her heart and gut to be right.

The Sun Trumps everything – Using the energy of the sun to break curses, jinxes and crossed conditions
The energy of the Sun counters any and every magic. Period. Curses, jinxes and crossed conditions come in many forms and many degrees of intensity. Sometimes you think you are crazy or paranoid, but the negative intent of others and your own negative self talk can block your magic or stop you from reaching your highest potential. Jacki will take you through how to use the Sun’s energy to clear out those personal demons. This class uses techniques from traditional magic, astrology, conjure and Kabbalah magic.

In this ritual participants will receive and welcome the gift of life from their ancestors. You must be able to receive this from both mother and father in order to proceed. Once you have received the gift of life, you are directed to hold and honor that gift. Having received and accepted the gift of life, you move on to engage with an avatar of the Sun, with the intention of awakening the soul that rests within that gift of life, which you have been holding. Once awake, you move out to a new awareness of the self, your gifts and a deep honor for the light in others.

Goth Interest: Graveyards Through Time

Largely ignored or forgotten about in the modern age, the graveyards of the western world have a long and rich history. They were once the centers of social activity for medieval communities, serving as the sites of festivals and even playgrounds of children. The industrial age changed all this, making them horrific and unsanitary places to be shunned and feared. Come and learn how these burial places were redeemed and reclaimed. And discover how they evolved into grand spectacles in the Victorian era, and why they are still among the best places to enjoy an afternoon.

From the dawn of humanity, fire has been a central to our religious and magical life.  Once revered natural phenomena, civilization’s very existence depends on our kindling and utilizing its many blessings.  The fire in the home hearth, a living divinity, is the very foundation of clan and family.  In ritual it helps us commune with gods, to heal, to perform feats of magic and transformation.  We’ll explore the history, mythology, theology and magical use of fire in modern pagan practice, including practical magic for your use at home.

Spiritual Crisis - Awakening the Soul

The shaman dances between the infinite and the ordinary, constantly juggling the apparent paradox of the One and the relative world. To do this work effectively requires an openness on the part of the ego to Death & Dismemberment. It requires room for the awareness of Soul to arise and permeate our experience, stirring others to wake as well. But the process can be rough on the ego, and without a clear context, can lead to what is now called "spiritual crisis." This workshop addresses this awakening state and offers strategies and tactics for bringing it on - and surviving it.

We live in a world of created reality. Quantum physics tells us that an observed event is different from one that goes undetected. Once we begin to investigate our reality we find that who we are is made up of others expectations, our perceived limitations and the projections of our own monkey mind. In these places our shadows thrive. They are positive and negative; their influence on our lives is staggering. Our inability to rise above our challenges is based mostly on how we perceive ourselves and how we are perceived. In this class, we will attempt to sort out the difference between who we are and who we think we are.

The 1899 Ritual
While Modern Paganism (probably) didn’t really start until the middle of the 20th Century, the pieces were in place long before that. The 1899 Ritual is an attempt to figure out what “Pagan Ritual” might have looked like at the end of the 19th Century. Weaving together the threads of the grimoire tradition, Freemasonry, Leyland, and English Romantic Poetry, the 1899 Ritual is a step backwards in time. Join us to see what ritual might have looked like before people were even calling themselves Pagans or Witches.

Saving ourselves with the sacred waters: a reflection on ordinary sacrifice.
Sometimes the hardest thing is simply getting through the day. Sometimes life is hard and magic seems far away, both for ourselves and for those we love. In this workshop we will work with techniques for simple ways to incorporate the magic of the sacred well into our daily practice. We will explore ancient myths about the winning of the waters of the sacred well in Celtic, Norse, and Baltic, traditions, exploring their similarities and differences. We will then talk about how those myths can inform our daily lives, infusing us with healing and strength. In particular we will examine stereotypes of sacrifice and how we as pagans have an ancient and strong tradition of transformational gifting, where she or he who gives of themselves is healed and transformed even as they give.
